Dr Gunar Hering, executive leadership team member at Hyphen, has this week been announced as the new CEO of renewable energy company ENERTRAG.
Dr Gunar, who is the German company’s current COO and has been part of ENERTRAG’s executive board since 2014, will take over the role on July 1.
He holds a PhD in nuclear physics and brings a wealth of experience to Hyphen with more than 20 years’ experience in the renewable and broader energy sector in advisory roles, asset management and finance. Dr Gunar’s financial expertise and business network will be invaluable to the Hyphen project as it seeks to attract international investors for a project estimated to cost $9.4 billion, roughly equivalent to Namibia’s GDP.
Having operated in South Africa since March 2017, ENERTRAG brings to the Hyphen project a deep knowledge of the country and important technical and engineering experience. The company has profound understanding of the hydrogen economy having one of the longest track records globally in the production of green hydrogen from wind energy.
Dr Gunar said: “I am very pleased with the trust that has been placed in me. ENERTRAG will continue to pursue the successful growth course of the past years as a green energy company in order to make a significant contribution to the energy transition and thus to the replacement of fossil energy.”
